About Dr. Mott
Dr. Wanda Thornton Mott is the Medical Director of the Women’s Specialist of Houston at Texas Children’s Hospital. The hospital is the largest women and children’s hospital in the nation. This is a premier program for total women’s health care. As a gynecological clinician and surgeon, her hallmarks include educating patients and providing cutting edge medical and surgical care. She is experienced in minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, robotics ablation. Dr. Mott has been a managing partner for Houston Women’s OBGYN PA and has practiced as a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in Texas for more than 20 years in the Texas Medical Center.

As a world-renowned leader and expert in her field, Dr. Mott is recognized by her peers as one of America’s Top Obstetrician and Gynecologist. In 1990 she served as an invited lecturer on ‘Women’s Health Care Concerns: Self Care Obstetrics and Gynecology’ at the 1st Sino-American Conference on Women’s Issues in Beijing, China. Since 2006, she has received the “Top Doc” and “Super Doc” Awards from the Texas Monthly Magazine. She served as a panelist for Women Who Win: Ask the doctor segment for 2011, 2012, and 2013. In January 2014, she received the prestigious ‘Maimonides’ Award for excellence in medicine and community service. She serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine and as a Clinical Instructor for the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.

In 2016, Dr. Mott was honored as Americas Top 10 % Professionals. Additionally, Mott chaired the national committee on public health and consumer affairs for the National Medical Association. She received the Community Angel Award for the Houston Woman’s Magazine 2016. In 2017, Dr. Mott received the National Consumer Advisory Board Award; Americas’ Best Physician based on superior training, experience, continued education and commitment to excellence. In 2019 Dr. Mott was the Houston Defender State of Black Women’s Health Forum as an expert panelist. Since 2019, she has been a spokesperson for the American Heart
Association.

Dr. Mott is sought after on local, national and international lecture circuits for her talks on Nutrition, Women’s Health, Teen Sexuality, Teen Pregnancy and Hormone Replacement Therapy. Most recently, she gave the keynote address ‘Remembering Our Health’ for the BET Foundation’s Women’s Health Symposium in Houston; and served as a panelist on ‘Reclaiming Good Health’ at the Metamorphosis Women’s Empowerment Conference in
Houston.

Since 2020 Dr. Mott has served on the Multigenerational Education program exploring the six most common preventable diseases ravaging the health of communities. The project focuses on Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity, Stroke and Cancer. The updates are on prevention and development of new habits in three generations to change the lives of families. A strong emphasis has been on Mental Health. In 2021 and 2022, Dr. Mott was noted in the Super Woman Syndrome for Women’s Health and Wellness. She was also named to the Women’s Fund DocTalks Board Member. Dr. Mott chaired a City-wide Safe Motherhood Initiative for the Missouri City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, designed to provide Maama Kits –clean birthing tools- to women in Sub-Saharan African countries. She served four years (2016 – 2019) as chair of the Western Area Health and Human Services Facet of Links, Inc. This encompasses a ten-state area dedicated to decreasing health disparities and improving the health of the community.

In recognition of her personal and professional accomplishments, Dr. Mott has been the recipient of numerous awards, appointments and listings including: the ‘African American Business Achievement Pinnacle Award’ from the Houston Citizens Chamber of Commerce, the ‘Texas Women’s Empowerment Award’ from the TWEF Foundation, the ‘IMPACT Award’ from The Womens Guild of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, the ‘Circle of friends Award’ from Windsor Village United Methodist Church AIDS Ministry, the ‘Edith Award’ from the Houston Medical Forum – for mentoring programs with young girls, the ‘Woman on The Move Award’ from the Texas Executive Women and the Houston Chronicle, ‘Soaring Achievement in Medicine’ Award from the South Central Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

She was appointment to President Bill Clinton’s ‘Council on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention’ and was nominated to the ‘Texas Hall of Fame’ by The Late Governor Ann Richards. As a professional woman of leadership and compassion, she serves our communities in many capacities. She is the Medical Director for the Homeless Health Clinic at Trinity East United Methodist Church; She is co-founder of the Mary Susan Moore Medical Society of African American women physicians of Texas; board member of the NAACP, Houston Branch; a Silver Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and
Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter.

Dr. Mott is a Phi Beta Kappa member and a Magna cum Laude graduate of Smith College; and received her medical degree and residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. Dr. Mott is a proud Houstonian and a product of Houston schools and a member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church.

She is married to William Russell, Automobile Executive and they are the proud parents of three sons and three daughters Manning, Malik, William Jamel, Renee, Veronica and Nia.

About Dr. Fischer
Dr. Fischer attended Baylor College of Medicine, did his residency at the University of Washington, and his fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson. He is a former Associate Professor of Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

He performed one of the first UFEs in Houston in the year 2000, and has since performed over 3500 UFEs, and thousands of other minimally invasive procedures
over his 20+ year career. He was instrumental in making UFE available to women in Houston and southeast Texas.

After being on staff at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center for over 20 years, Dr. Fischer opened Fibroid Institute Houston, the first dedicated UFE outpatient treatment center in Houston. He takes pride in offering a personal approach to treating women with uterine fibroids. Treating fibroid patients in this dedicated outpatient setting allows him to provide quality and efficient care to his patients.
