Smart Lunches

To address barriers to health care services, high rates of chronic health conditions, and low rates of preventive screenings, The Women’s Fund provides free preventive health seminars to the community. All of our healthy lifestyle and advocacy topics can be presented at a business or an organization during a lunch hour!

We also use volunteer doctors to provide seminars, allowing individuals to learn about a new subject and immediately get their basic questions answered by an expert.

Finally, we focus on teaching resiliency, which we define as the ability to bounce back from bad situations. Research shows that resilient individuals are more likely to perceive change and stressful situations as a challenge as well as an opportunity for personal growth. Their behavior reflects a belief in their ability to take greater responsibility and impact their life circumstances. The foundational component of resilience is taking responsibility for one’s life circumstances.

Examples of topics include:

  • Resilience and Emotional Health
  • Dealing with Difficult People
  • Basic Women’s Health Concerns
  • Heart Health
  • Dental Hygiene
  • Keeping Track Of Your Medical Records
  • Advocating for Your Health

Any person or organization can arrange these seminars. For more information on our programs, including how to request a program or how to organize your own class or event, contact us at (713) 623-6543 or healtheducator@thewomensfund.org.
